Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, during her visit to China, announced a significant partnership with Huawei Technologies aimed at transforming Lahore into Pakistan’s first modern smart city. The initiative will leverage Huawei’s cutting-edge digital solutions to enhance urban living and infrastructure in the city.

Invitation for Increased Investment in Punjab

Maryam Nawaz was warmly received at Huawei’s headquarters in Longgang District, Shanghai, where she extended an invitation to the company for increased investment in Pakistan, especially in the province of Punjab. She proposed the establishment of a Huawei office at Nawaz Sharif IT City and offered full cooperation for setting up assembly and manufacturing plants in the province.

Additionally, CM Maryam Nawaz offered Huawei the opportunity to establish retail offices and after-sales service centers throughout Punjab, further deepening the company’s presence in the region.

During her meeting with Wang Chengdong, Huawei’s President of Government Affairs, the Chief Minister outlined her vision for modernizing Lahore into a digital city. Key areas of focus for the initiative included e-commerce, ecosystem production, and the digitalization of the health and education sectors.

The CM also emphasized the importance of integrating Huawei’s expertise into Punjab’s first Artificial Intelligence University. She sought Huawei’s support in capacity building and IT research at Nawaz Sharif IT City, aiming to foster innovation and technological advancement in the province.

A significant part of the discussions involved Huawei’s role in introducing modern digital technologies to Punjab’s youth.
