Microsoft has launched a new feature aimed at improving the file-sharing experience for iPhone users on Windows PCs. This new feature is designed to overcome the longstanding challenges users have faced with compatibility issues, making it easier to share files seamlessly between iPhones and Windows devices.

Available in the Phone Link Beta
Currently, the feature is available in the beta version of Microsoft’s Phone Link app. Phone Link allows iOS and Android devices to connect to Windows PCs, offering functionalities like notifications, call management, and now, file sharing.

How the New File Sharing Feature Works
According to a recent blog post by Microsoft, this feature enables Windows users to select their iPhone as an option when sharing files. The Link to Windows app appears as a sharing extension on the iPhone, allowing users to transfer files effortlessly. Here are the steps to share files between iPhones and Windows PCs:

Sharing Files from iPhone to Windows PC:

  1. Select the file(s) you wish to share.
  2. Tap the “share” icon.
  3. Choose “Link to Windows”.
  4. Select the device you want to share the files with.

Sharing Files from Windows PC to iPhone:

  1. Select the file(s) you want to share on your PC (local files only).
  2. Right-click on the file and click “Share”.
  3. Select “My Phone”.

Limitations and Requirements
This new feature is currently only available to members of the Windows Insider Program. It requires iPhones running iOS 16 or later, along with the Link to Windows app version 1.24112.73 or later.
