The Punjab Education Department has launched a new mobile app to monitor teacher attendance. The main aim behind this initiative is to ensure accountability in schools across the province. The app utilizes real-time location tracking to verify that teachers are present during working hours. In addition, the principals or other section heads of the schools will also be able to provide feedback through the app, helping identify gaps and improve the education system.
According to the stats, there are more than 105,000 educational institutions in the province, including 52,314 public and 50,054 private schools. The new app aims to address long-standing issues like “ghost teachers.” These absent teachers are reportedly receiving salaries despite skipping their duties.
Besides, the heads of schools are also authorized to update teacher profiles, approve temporary transfers, and manage administrative tasks, which will help streamline operations across the schools of the province.
The new app will be operated through the Programme Monitoring and Implementation Unit, ensuring greater efficiency by holding teachers accountable. Teachers who fail to comply with attendance rules could face serious repercussions, making it necessary for them to stay punctual and engaged.
This digital initiative aligns with broader efforts to modernize the education sector and optimize resource utilization. The app if implemented efficiently is expected to benefit students while ensuring teachers actively contribute to the education system.
